Meal Time

Duane Anderson
Our dog stares at me
letting me know she is ready for dinner.
It is only three in the afternoon
and she is ready to eat.
She doesn’t know that it isn’t four o’clock,
her usual dinner time.

Her stomach is telling her otherwise.
I let her stare at me
knowing she wasn’t going away
until I put food in her bowl.
I continue reading my book
as she continues her begging look.

Duane Anderson currently lives in La Vista, NE.  He has had poems published in Fine Lines, Cholla Needles, Tipton Poetry Journal, and several other publications. He is the author of  ‘On the Corner of Walk and Don’t Walk,’ and ‘The Blood Drives: One Pint Down,’ and ‘Conquer the Mountains.’
